Siding is becoming more and more popular every day. Lamels from high-quality raw materials are durable and practical. This material replaced wood panels and, due to affordability, has become a real favorite in the construction market. Unlike natural cladding, it does not need additional protection against external factors.
Probably, many will be interested to know how siding is insulated at home outside, and we will try to give a detailed answer to this question. To begin with, I would like to better acquaint you with the technical characteristics of the material, but they are quite good here.
Distinctive qualities of facing
Plastic lamellas easily withstand high temperatures (up to +50 C) and have fire resistance. They are not afraid of moisture and are not infected by pathogens, are not damaged by moderate mechanical stress, do not attract insects and are environmentally friendly.
Such decoration outside the house looks attractive and is able to transform even dilapidated buildings, as it allows you to hide all the defects of the facade. Siding is easy to install, but still, its installation requires certain skills. Siding perfectly conceals pipes, curved walls and stucco errors.
Modern lamellas are distinguished by a variety of colors that allow you to show design abilities and create an interesting decorative solution. In the tone of the casing, you can choose the drainpipes, stormwater, extensions and various associated elements.
When choosing a panel decorative material, it is worth knowing that several types of it are presented on the construction market:
- from vinyl or plastic. This type of panel is more common than others. With its help, old buildings are reanimated and help houses harmoniously fit into the general ensemble. New buildings, lined with such material, take on a complete look. You will easily find a siding that imitates a log or painted in the most popular colors. Its price is affordable to most buyers, and this is an undeniable plus vinyl product. It is good that under it you can install a heater with your own hands;
- from aluminum. They are mainly sheathed with industrial buildings, and only occasionally residential buildings. In some cases, only such cladding can be used to decorate the walls from the outside;
- from metal. It is used quite rarely, and they choose it for non-residential fund, since this siding is noisy, and its plus is that it does not burn, which is important in industrial enterprises. It is necessary to mention the high wear resistance of metal products. They leave the factory with a protective coating, significantly extending the service life of the finished facade. Coatings have a rich gamut of colors on the RAL scale;
- based on fiber cement. It is made of cement flavored with cellulose. Acquired by owners who want to achieve an imitation of natural stone. Siding is unpretentious and has excellent decorative characteristics.
Crate
To carry out high-quality installation of siding on the walls of a brick, frame or wooden house with your own hands, you need to create a frame, and there are good reasons for this:
- The imperfections of the walls outside the building can be made invisible.
- It is possible to install insulation and waterproofing, which will help to save on heating of premises.
- A ventilated facade appears, eliminating condensation and moisture.
The lathing is assembled from a wooden material or a metal corner, which is preferred in the presence of protruding parts, although it costs more and its installation is more complicated. The metal crate does not swell from moisture, does not deform, does not rot, which allows you to serve for a very long time. When starting to install the frame on the walls of a wooden house with your own hands, do not forget to treat them with antiseptics, as required by technology.
The choice of fasteners with which the frame will be mounted directly depends on the material of the crate. The technological gap between the wall and the planks of the crate can be 15 cm, and it depends on what insulation will be laid. If only waterproofing is additionally installed, only a couple of centimeters may suffice, while the insulation will pull more space (up to 15 cm).
The step between the elements of the vertical crate is usually 50 cm, and the installation of the frame itself is carried out under strict level control using guides.
If you plan to create a crate of wooden material, carry out work in dry weather, otherwise the beam may lead.
We choose a heater for the facade
If you want to use polystyrene as an insulating material, then consider that for all its advantages it is not suitable for buildings with bends, and then it is better to give preference to mineral wool or to combine these two options.
Minvata buy one that is designed for work outside the building - it is thicker and has a denser structure. One of the varieties of fibrous roll material is ecowool, which is distinguished by good thermal and vapor barrier, but its high price is not suitable for everyone.
Facade cladding
Decorative decoration of a wooden, frame or brick house begins with the installation of a vapor barrier membrane. Such a layer does not allow condensation from the walls to the insulation, which can lose its protective functions due to getting wet. An expensive membrane can be replaced with a more affordable roofing material or film. For mineral wool, unlike polystyrene foam, vapor barrier is optional, because such a material allows air to circulate, so condensate will not collect.
DIY insulation and siding installation
External insulation of the facade is carried out in the strict sequence:
- they begin work by dismantling all the elements (platbands, shutters, gutters) from the walls, clean their surface from protrusions, cracked plaster and dirt. The same applies to a wooden house;
- on a clean surface with their own hands they fix a vapor barrier using a construction stapler. The membrane is placed with the rough side to the wall;
- the vertical crate of wooden material is fixed at the same distance, which is a couple of centimeters less than the width of the insulation (for tight placement). As fasteners, choose nails or self-tapping screws designed for woodwork;
- insulation is fixed (pressed between the rails), which can be further strengthened with your own hands using dowels with a wide hat;
- the insulation is covered with a waterproofing film with an overlap, and its edges are bent inward;
- on the battens of the crate (50/30 mm), a timber frame is perpendicularly mounted on which decorative cladding will be installed;
- decorative decoration (in our case siding) is set outside the house. Then you can carry out the installation of finishing elements and communications (drainpipes).
If you correctly complete all the installation procedures without missing a single step, then you will get a beautiful and reliable finish of the exterior walls of the house under the heater, created by yourself.
