Wood is rightfully considered the most aesthetic and beautiful finish option from natural building material. Wooden slopes on the windows in a wooden house, installed in compliance with technology, will become not only an original, but also an eco-friendly element of a modern home. Slopes for windows can be freely bought in a store or made independently with the necessary tools.
Getting ready for decoration
Before starting the installation of window slopes, you need to check the correct installation of window blocks. If there are deviations horizontally or vertically, as well as a curvature of the profile, the errors should be minimized so that subsequent window decoration does not emphasize the disadvantages. To do this, you can use the plumb lines, placing them in the next order above the vertical profile of the window box. Then you need to measure the sides with a tape measure and, if the indicators coincide with each other, you can move on.
Check that there are no scratches or chips on the profiles. The window unit should have a flat surface on which there are no bubbles or cracks. Slopes are installed after the complete dismantling of the previous parts. It is necessary:
- remove old ramps;
- remove excess foam;
- remove the protective film;
- close through holes.
Types of installation
Installation of wooden slopes on the windows in a wooden house can be done in several ways, so you need to decide and think through the nuances in advance. Wood slopes can be mounted 12 hours after the installation of the window box. Construction foam manages to dry out during this time, forming the strength of the form. Since polyurethane foam is susceptible to rapid destruction, window finishes should not be delayed for long. Thanks to operational work, the installation of wooden slopes will show the highest quality results.
Installation of slopes on the windows with your own hands can be done in the following ways:
- In the first method, foam is the material for filling the voids. Initially, all panels are measured, adjusted to the desired size using clipping. Pay attention to the corners: it is important that they differ in perfect evenness. Next, the panels are fixed with screws in the area of the corner connection. Slopes should be laid in frame slots, after which the empty spots are filled with mounting foam. Foam in view of the fact that the sealant will increase volumes by 3 times by the time of complete drying.
- The second method uses mineral wool. Panels in the same way are adjusted to the desired dimensions. We fasten the mineral wool insulation to them, cutting out the material with strips of the required sizes. After fixing, we cover with a layer of polyethylene glued to tape. We fasten the panels to each other with screws. The finished frame structure can now be installed in the grooves.
We set the slopes in a wooden house
To make high-quality external slopes on the windows, the material must be very resistant to moisture. For interior decoration, you can omit the requirements and select any desired material. Window boxes can be finished with plastic, wood or wall paneling. The slopes from the lining are considered universal from the listed materials, since the material is perfectly suitable for decorating the house both inside and out.
To install window slopes you will need:
- wood panels;
- corners;
- a set of screws;
- polyurethane foam;
- screwdriver.
Front of work:
- If the walls in the house do not differ evenness, it is necessary to install the crate, the battens for which you need to choose in proportion to the thickness of the panel for decoration. When preparing the bars, consider not only the dimensions of the ramps, but also the installation procedure. The crate should be attached with screws on the perimeter of the window box using a screwdriver or drill. Carefully fill the free space with a material with a thermal insulation function. If the walls in the house are even and beautiful, you can safely skip the first step along the crate and immediately go to the slopes of the window box.
- Next, we fasten the lining with a screwdriver on self-tapping screws. With a vertical installation, the slopes on the windows outside or inside are fixed by the area of the frame where the grooves should lie. Use the fasteners to secure the panel to the chassis. For horizontal installation, start work from the bottom side, having previously mounted the starting strip on the frame. Slopes of windows are fixed first in the apertures of the strip, then with each other.
- We install installed slopes with corners that will help to hide minor errors and defects, and also contribute to high tightness.
We make slopes for plastic windows
Installation of wooden slopes on plastic windows is no longer a rarity and is often used to ennoble home space. How to do the job correctly, consider further.
- We install starting guides around the perimeter of the window box along the contour of future slopes. We fasten them with screws using a screwdriver. In advance, for the placement of self-tapping screws, we make holes with a drill or perforator. We set the guides with maximum evenness, tracking the vertical with the help of a level.
- Then we adjust the slopes to the desired sizes and insert the panels.
- We fill the free space between the wall and the panel with sealant. Apply masking tape to the sealed area. Allow the material to dry completely for 12 hours.
- We install a wooden corner in the joint area, covering them with the remains of the hermetic. Excess foam is carefully removed from the surface of the panels.
Slopes outdoors or indoors with a plastic window will create an interesting contrast, giving the appearance of the house an original performance. In addition to the general view, you can arrange wooden slopes on the door.
Door decoration in various ways
Finishing from wood material can be done for both wooden and metal doors. It is advisable to use raw materials, the manufacture of which is based on natural wood, or to use laminated panels. To achieve high insulating properties, it is recommended to use an MDF board.
In case of discrepancy between the sizes and slopes, they can be replaced with an analog laminate.
- We carefully seal the seams between the door body and the surface of the walls.
- The remaining foam is carefully removed, the surface is cleaned and primed.
- We determine the shape of the slopes: it can be either direct or with a slight slope. Next, fix the panel with dowels.
- We fasten the slopes to the mounting glue or use screws.
- We carefully fill the empty spots with silicone sealant.
When finishing the door, make sure that the wooden planks are correctly selected. They should be the same thickness, and the dimensions on both sides should be identical to each other..
For the installation of door slopes, plasterboard is also often used, since it can significantly save on the purchase of materials for leveling walls. From it, slopes can be made outside and inside the entrance opening, using the following technology:
- First, the surface under the drywall is thoroughly cleaned of dirt and primed.
- We measure the prepared material and cut it into pieces of the desired length. Please note that some of the parts are cut at an angle so that parts can be fixed on a deflected surface.
- Once again, the cut sheets are compared with the dimensions of the doorway.
- We fix the drywall with dowels or special mounting glue.
- Installation begins with the installation of the side of the opening, and then proceed to the top.
- Having reliably fixed gypsum plasterboard sheets, we perform putty finishing using perforated corners.
Finishing for doors can be done in a simple plaster way in the following sequence:
- We clean and primer the working surface. Let her dry well.
- For evenness of the corners of the opening we fix a metal corner.
- We use a spatula to apply the plaster mixture over the entire surface of the slopes.
- After the plaster has completely dried, we clean the surface with a construction sandpaper.
- In conclusion, we process the working surface with paints and varnishes to give external aesthetics.
Slopes can also be made of plastic. The sequence of work is as follows:
- We measure the door slopes and cut the plastic panels to the desired size. It is more convenient to use a jigsaw, which will ensure even sections.
- Once again we prepare the prepared panels with the opening for dimensionality.
- We set the slopes on the sides and fix using self-tapping screws.
- On the edge of the wall we fasten the wooden slats, checking the levelness of the installation.
- On the bottom of the panels we mount the plug, insert it into the side slopes and the initial profile.
- Finally, we process the joints with silicone sealant.
Slopes on the windows, made of high quality and natural wood, will not only perfectly decorate the room, but will be very practical to use. Errors made in the work will be hidden, and the appearance of the slopes will be noticeably more attractive. The door slopes will become similar, giving the house a noble appearance.
