In terms of decoration, the main drawback of foam blocks is the unattractive appearance. This material, which has become widespread, does not make it possible to do without additional measures to give an attractive external appearance, both to the facade and the internal surface. Here it is impossible, as, for example, in the case of wood, to leave the walls without decoration, but only to process with protective compounds. Do-it-yourself interior decoration of the house made of foam blocks is facilitated only by the fact that the surface intended for the work is notable for its good evenness and smoothness.
Using Drywall
This option is most common when decorating walls.. It allows you to perform work without serious labor. The material is characterized by a flat surface, favorable for finishing. It is then easy to glue wallpaper onto drywall. Another option for finishing can be plastering or painting. All this can be done without problems after installing drywall sheets in the design position.
The material can be attached to the wall surface in two ways:
- without frame for even bases;
- on the frame for bases with significant irregularities.
Frameless Mount
This finish option is quite simple to implement and does not require serious labor and time costs. For work, you only need to prepare a suitable adhesive composition.
Do-it-yourself wall decoration in this case is performed in the following order:
- Base cleaning. You will need to remove various types of contaminants from the surface, such as dust, grease, and dirt. Their presence will not allow the material to reliably adhere to the surface.
- Cutting sheets of drywall. To carry it out, you need to accurately measure the size of the room, think out the layout so that as a result the smallest number of sheets of standard sizes is consumed. This step is very important in terms of saving material.
- Application of adhesive. Preparation of the mixture is carried out according to the instructions on the packaging. On the surface of the walls with your own hands, apply the solution with an even layer.
- After preparation, you can stick the sheet. It is important to remember that it takes at least half an hour to set the glue. Further activities are highly discouraged at this time.
- The final stage of finishing walls from foam blocks with plasterboard with your own hands becomes puttying. This is done in order to align the seams between the individual cladding elements.
- After the putty has dried, you can begin to finish the finish. As mentioned earlier, it can be wallpaper, plaster or paint. You can consider fixing ceramic tiles. This will be especially true for wet rooms. In this case, the basis of drywall should be moisture resistant.
Frame mount
When working with sheets, this option is most common. In addition to aligning and creating a rough finish, the method allows for the laying of a heat-insulating layer. When erecting external walls, this is often not necessary, since thermal insulation is carried out from the outside. For internal insulation can play the role of sound insulation.
The frame can be made in two ways:
- Special metal profile. It is worth distinguishing between elements designed for the ceiling and walls. The rack wall profile is most often more stable and durable. Its use guarantees the reliability of the entire structure.
- Wooden blocks. For the manufacture of a frame for drywall, you can use a cross section of 50x50 mm.
It is important to note that the tree is highly not recommended for use in humid rooms, here the metal profile for the gypsum board is better cope with the work. Before starting wall decoration, it is necessary to treat elements of wood with an antiseptic. This is a mandatory event that will protect against fungus, mold and rot.
The wall decoration with drywall on the frame is performed in the following sequence:
- Surface cleaning is performed in the same way as in the previous case. After you need to perform the layout and cutting.
- Fastening the racks of the frame. First, these elements are fixed to the floor and ceiling, and then to the wall. The step of vertical profiles should be taken depending on the presence of a layer of insulation. In cleanliness, the distance between the racks is taken so that it is possible to lay the selected insulation of a standard size without additional cutting. For example, for mineral wool, it is recommended to assign a step so that exactly 58 cm remains between the racks in the light. When used without insulation, it is worth focusing on a step of 60 cm.
- The length of the sheets does not always allow you to close the wall in height in one go. To connect drywall in a horizontal line, the transverse jumpers of the frame are mounted. Their pitch is assigned depending on the standard length of the rough finish.
- On the top and bottom of the window openings, it is also desirable to provide a belt of profile or timber. This will fix the trim elements without difficulty.
- Fastening the frame to the wall is performed on the dowel. After assembly, you can begin to install the sheets.
- Before fixing the sheets, insulation or communications is laid in the space between the racks. Gypsum plasterboard casing is a convenient way to hide wires or pipes of small diameter.
- Fastening sheets with self-tapping screws to the prepared structure. Previously, it is worth noting the location of the output of communications and the location of outlets.
- The completion of wall decoration is carried out, as in the frameless method.
Use of lining
Drywall is an excellent rough basis for decorating the walls of a house made of foam concrete. The second option, which is immediately the finishing surface - lining. This material is a board, which on the side surface have special devices for docking with each other. The width of the elements is assigned small. The advantages of using this method of cladding for wall fencing of a house made of foam inside include:
- attractive appearance;
- naturalness and environmental friendliness;
- no need for additional finishing.
But it is worth remembering that the material is quite expensive.. Work on fixing to a vertical surface is performed in the following order:
- Base cleaning.
- Rail mounting For their manufacture, you can use a metal profile, but more often I use wooden boards impregnated with an antiseptic. Fastening to the wall is performed on the dowels in the holes prepared in advance for this. The evenness of the installation is checked by the building level and plumb.
- If during the inspection deviations from the vertical are found, then it will be necessary to correct the irregularities by installing gaskets.
- Next, proceed to fixing the lining boards. It is important to carefully check the evenness of the first element, since it is he who will set the direction to all the others. Fastening can be done using nails or special clamps. The second option has greater aesthetics and allows you to perform reliable lossless fastening for the appearance of the finish (the element fixes hidden).
At the end of the process, the lining is treated with various impregnations or paints to protect it from external influences.
